Yesterday I reminded you that each of us will face a “wilderness” period of some type or another. There is no way for me to give you a specific description of what it will be, but as our Lord draws us closer . . . he will purify our life—usually with fire. Much like what is needed to purify gold. Adversity (pt 4 of 6 )

We have been talking about Job’s experiences and how he responded to the attacks of Satan. But the trials continued coming, and eventually it became personal when Satan attacked Job’s physical being. Now that is where it hurts the most. I mean we can handle some of the “stuff” on the outside, but when our bodies are attacked? That is another thing all together. (more…)

Adversity (pt 3 of 6 )

If you remember our message yesterday, Satan had attacked Job’s wealth. Everything he owned was gone. However, it didn’t end there. The touching of his possessions did not end his torment. The devil reserved his keenest blow for the last.

Job hardly had time to realize that all his wealth was gone when one more messenger arrives to tell him that in the midst of a party. A strong wind struck the house his children were in and killed them all. (more…)

Adversity (pt 2 of 6 )

Let’s talk about the “Devices” our Adversary uses. Right after Yahweh showed “the accuser” that Job had an opening for attack, the Scripture says, “It all fell on a day . . .”

Those few, brief words give us a very vivid description of the enemy‘s attack on Job‘s possessions. His plan had been carefully thought out with all the skill and cunning that he had developed since he tempted Eve in the garden. (more…)

Adversity (pt 1 of 6 )

Some of you have said some very nice (and encouraging) words about my study on Job, and I thank you. For those of you who have read it, do you remember how our Lord evaluated Job? The story says that there was “no one like Job in all the earth.” In His eyes, Job was a city set on a hill that could not be hid.  In fact, we could say that of all men, Job could not live or die “unto himself.” His fall would be the stumbling block for many. There is no doubt that because of this he became a central target for Satan, someone that he had indeed set his heart on with unceasing thought and fiendish plans to steal, kill and destroy. (more…)
