A Time of Enlightenment (pt 2 of 2)

Yesterday we looked at an event in the 6^th chapter of Judges, when “an Angel of the Lord” visited a man named “Gideon,” and right off the bat says, “Hey Gideon, my Valiant Hero”! The Lord is with you.”

Gideon says to this divine traveler, “if what you say is true (that YHWH is with Gideon) then why is all this terrible oppression happening to us?” You see when the Angel of the Lord told Gideon that “God is with you,” Gideon took it as a reference to God being present with Israel not with him individually.

A Time of Enlightenment (pt 1 of 2)

The angel of ADONAI came and sat under the pistachio tree in ‘Ofrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite. His son Gideon was threshing wheat in the winepress, in order to hide it from Midyan. The angel of ADONAI appeared to him and said to him: “You valiant hero! ADONAI is with you!” ~Judges 6:11-12

I absolutely love this passage. There is a guy named Gideon who is threshing wheat and the “Angel of the Lord” pays a visit and calls him a “Valiant Hero.” Then proceeds to tell Gideon that the Lord is with him.
