What About Jerusalem? (pt 3 of 3)

Okay, yes it is time to discover the great mystery about Jerusalem . . .

Well we need a little bit of insight into what the names mean. You see, Moriah (Moriyah) uses the same Hebrew root as “Torah,” which means “Teaching.” (It doesn’t mean “Law,” as many believe). So “Moriyah” and “Torah” both mean “The Teaching,” or the “Divine Message” from God. (BTW, it’s the same root used for Parents! Ooh! Ideally we look to our parents for guidance and direction to follow God’s path). So Moriyah is the place where teachings will come from. (more…)

What About Jerusalem (pt 2 of 3)

Yesterday I got sidetracked on the story of Abraham and Isaac, so today we will talk some more about Jerusalem.

We saw in our last study that there is something special about this Mount Moriah. We first heard a story about two brothers wanting to bless their brother with a wagon-load of a bountiful harvest; then that Abraham was called to sacrifice Isaac on that same mountain. (more…)

What About Jerusalem? (pt 1 of 3)

There is a story told in Ancient Jewish Wisdom of two brothers. They were both farmers and lived on opposite sides of a large mountain. One brother was married and had many children–a very large family, where the other brother was single.

One year there was a bountiful harvest, so the single brother thought to himself, “I don’t need all of this. My brother has a wife and several children, he needs this more than I do. Tonight I’m going to take over some of my harvest to his farm.” (more…)
