I listen to the news and I hear people continually shouting insults at my Lord as if they could put Him on trial or something. They feel they can judge Him, attack Him, and criticize or reject His Word. But I tell you something . . . He called them to remember that He is the Creator; the Lord of the universe; the final Judge and Jury for all people, everywhere.
The Lord says: “Who is like Me, and who will summon Me into court? And who then is the shepherd who can stand before Me?” (Jeremiah 50:44)
This is nothing new. Throughout history, people and nations have ignored these warnings, exalting themselves against the God of Creation. Demanding their own way, they have ignored Him and rejected His Word, disobeyed and mocked Him. Yet not one of these human efforts has changed this basic fact: Yahweh is God! There is nobody like Him. He is completely unique.
Throughout the Bible there are all kinds of examples that display His unique character: in His act of creation; in the Ten Commandments; and as He delivered the Israelites from bondage in Egypt, parted the Red Sea, and led them in conquest of the Promised Land. We see His sovereignty at work as Jesus was raised from the dead; in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost; and in miracle after miracle.
Today, don’t waist your time trying to mold him to fit your own ideas. An great book to read is “Your God is Too Small,” by J.B. Phillips (which is an excellent guide for both believers and skeptics). But still, I want you to begin today, and every day, for that matter, by reminding yourself that He is God. You are His creation, and you owe everything to Him. Humble yourself before Him. Place Him above everyone and everything else. His ways are far beyond anything you might imagine or experience. Remember, if you are going to call him “Lord,” he wants to be considered your Lord! It goes beyond just mouthing a bunch of words. You must surrender to Him as your Lord.
Yeah, yeah, I know I am preaching to the choir, but I assure you, if he is your “Lord,” he wants some say as to who you hang out with; he wants some control over what movies you watch and what music you listen to. He wants some say about that anger problem of yours and how you treat your kids. The bottom line is, if you are going to call him “Lord,” let him be your Lord.
Don’t even try to bring Him down to your level. Honor and worship Him as God Almighty! Make this the foundation of your life. As you place your trust in Him and base your life on His Word, you can know that you are solidly under His authority. There is no one like Him!
Father, forgive me for all the times I have questioned and doubted you. This morning I humble myself before you. You alone are God! I worship you! Please forgive me and strengthen through your Grace.
