One of my favorite quotes from Jurassic Park is after they had shut all power off in the park and right before Ray Arnold hits the switch to turn everything on, with a cigarette hanging from his lips he calmly says, “Hold on to your butts.”
Well, that is what I am going to tell you to do . . . “Hang on to your butts,” because soon, I can’t tell you when, but soon, all the foundations of our world are going to shake and Satan will roar like a maddened lion, and everywhere you look will be confusion, violence, and uncertainty. If you are unsure of your faith or only think about one day a week, you will fail to overcome. You will be discouraged and disillusioned. I hope this shakes you up some . . . but many of you will deny your faith and walk away from it completely. You will seek the comforts and acceptance of the world, instead of being willing to carry your cross to a sure death on Golgotha.
However, anyone who trusts in the Lord, will remain confident in him, they will see their salvation and their hearts and minds will be at peace. As Proverbs 29:25 says, “. . . whoever leans on, trusts in, and puts his confidence in the Lord is safe and set on high.” They can enjoy rest and sleep sweetly, unafraid of conditions around them. As the Psalmist encourages us, “Be strong, all who wait with hope for Yahweh, and let your heart be courageous” (Psalm 31:24)
I want to prepare and comfort your hearts with some tremendous promises our Lord made for anyone who is willing to trust in Him during these troubling times. See if you see the common thread in His Promise:
- “Elohim’s way is perfect!
The promise of Yahweh has proven to be true.
He is a Magen (a shield) to all those who take refuge in him” (II Samuel 22:31).
- “Show me the wonders of your great love,
you who save by your right hand
those who take refuge in you from those who attack them” (Psalm 17:7).
- “Your kindness is so great!
You reserve it for those who fear you.
Adam’s descendants watch
as you show it to those who take refuge in you.” (Psalm 31:19).
- “You hide them in the secret place of your presence
from those who scheme against them.
You keep them in a shelter,
safe from quarrelsome tongues” (Psalm 31:20).
- “Entrust your ways to Yahweh.
Trust him, and he will act on your behalf.
He will make your righteousness shine like a light,
your just cause like the noonday sun” (Psalm 37:5-6).
- “The victory for righteous people comes from Yahweh.
He is their fortress in times of trouble.
Yahweh helps them and rescues them.
He rescues them from wicked people.
He saves them because they have taken refuge in him” (Psalm 37:39-40).
- “I praise the word of Elohim.
I trust Elohim.
I am not afraid.
What can mere flesh and blood do to me?” (Psalm 56:4).
- “Trust him at all times, you people.
Pour out your hearts in his presence.
Elohim is our Machseh (our refuge). Selah” (Psalm 62:8).
- ” Those who trust Yahweh are like Mount Zion,
which can never be shaken.
It remains firm forever” (Psalm 125:1).
Wow! I could keep going, but I don’t think this email will hold all of the promises in the Scriptures! And, I hope you didn’t just breeze through those passages. They should have “lit you up” with enthusiasm and encouragement. You now have a quiver full of arrows to sling at your enemy. The only safeguard against his lies and evil devices is to face him with the promises of God. God’s Word is still all powerful and the devil still trembles when we stand firm with this Sword in hand.
My friends, as we go on in our faith, we must follow the instructions Paul gave to Timothy:
Fight the good fight for the Christian faith. Take hold of everlasting life to which you were called and about which you made a good testimony in front of many witnesses (I Timothy 6:12)
During our Bible Study last Wednesday night, we discussed how our faith is not run as a sprint or a quick jog around the block once a week! It is a lifelong race that requires stamina, strength and staying power . . . and above all else, the will — the determination and commitment — to continue the race! There must be a drive and ambition in your faith and you must harness the will and desire to complete the race!
Okay, so where does the staying power come from when we hit roadblocks, or get lost or become discouraged? Well . . . it comes from a life that is firmly grounded n the basic truths of our God — our Father; His Son — our Lord and brother; the infilling and power of our God’s Spirit! This is how flabby Christians are transformed into people who witness openly, who mature steadily and who face obstacles with boldness, courage and hope.
Take the armor our God has given us and go forward, take your stand!
