Surrendering: to discover The Fullness

For years I have claimed to be filled with the Spirit, testified that I’ve been baptized in the Spirit, preached that the Holy Spirit empowers me to witness and that he sanctifies me. I have prayed in the Spirit, talked to the Spirit, walked in the Spirit and heard his voice. I truly believe the Holy Spirit is the power of God!

As Paul explained it:

“Everything that goes into a life of pleasing God has been miraculously given to us by getting to know, personally and intimately, the One who invited us to God. The best invitation we ever received! We were also given absolutely terrific promises to pass on to you-your tickets to participation in the life of God after you turned your back on a world corrupted by lust. ” –II Peter 1:3-4

Cool! I can take you to the place where I was filled with the Spirit on October 27, 1979 at 2:45 am (if the current occupants don’t mind) and I have gone on to read everything that Scriptures say about the Holy Spirit — Old Testament as well as the New! But I confess that sometimes I still find myself praying, “Do I really know this incredible power that lives within me? Or is the Spirit just a doctrine to me? Am I somehow ignoring him? Am I not asking him to do for me what he came to do?”

The fact is, any of us can have access to something very valuable and never know it. And there is no way you can enjoy what it is you have unless you understand how valuable it is!

There is an old parable about a farmer who worked his small farm his entire life. For decades he tilled the rocky soil, living poor and finally dying frustrated and unhappy. At his death, the farm was passed down to his son. One day, while plowing, the son found a gold-streaked nugget. He had it appraised and was told it was pure gold! The young man soon discovered that the farm was full of gold. Instantly, he became a wealthy man. Yet his father could have enjoyed the wealth that was on the land his whole life–but he never knew it was there!

That is a perfect illustration of what many of us have been experiencing with the Holy Spirit. Many live in complete ignorance of what we have, of the power that resides in us. Some believers live their entire lives thinking they have all that the Holy Spirit brings, yet they never experience the fullness of His power. He is never able to complete the eternal work he was sent to do!

You can! Anytime you are willing to submit to His influence in your life. How about today? Just take the time to ask the Lord to show you all the Holy Spirit was sent to do. Take the time to ask the Lord to allow you to overflow with the Holy Spirit! Then, ask the Holy Spirit for continued wisdom and insight as to His workings. What was one of my previous emails? Oh, take the time to surrender . . .
