Messages of Joy

Good Christian Men, Rejoice

Good Christian men, rejoice
With heart and soul and voice;
Give ye heed to what we say:
News! News!
Jesus Christ is born today:
Ox and ass before him bow
And He is in the manger now.
Christ is born today!
Christ is born today!

Let “Christian men rejoice“! Absolutely! “With heart and soul and voice,” rejoice! We have every reason to rejoice. But more importantly, we need to know in heart and mind why we are rejoicing!

This time of year all kinds of folks celebrate and have fun and entertainment. But they are hiding behind the many masks of Christmas, and unless the One whose birthday we are celebrating becomes real and alive for them, they will return to joyless anxiety and fear.

The sad reality is that many believers are the ones who hide the secret behind the façade, but it was never meant to be a secret. No, no. From the very beginning, the message of the Incarnation — God Himself coming to live in our flesh — was meant to be “good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people.”

Through our thoughts, through our prayers, through our tried and untried means, we need to do all that we can do to make that astonishing mystery known. The amazing story, which is also a historical fact, that God became one of us so that we could become like Him, must be shared with all those we meet.
