Recently, I was reading Psalm 27, and verses 13-14 “lit up” for me:
“What, what would have become of me had I not believed that I would see the Lord’s goodness today? I will wait patiently for the Lord. I will be brave and courageous! Yes, I will wait patiently for the Lord!” (Psalm 27:`3-14)
Oh, yeah! Indeed, what would have become of me if I had never believed? Maybe it is just me, but have you ever asked that? Now, when this was written, David was going through some pretty tough times — probably tougher than either one of us has been suffering. I mean, all of us consider what is happening in our lives to be difficult, but have you ever had someone throwing a spear at you recently? The bottom-line, though, times were tough for David. But in the midst of his difficulties, he quoting Job and saying, “I’m not worried. I am not going to have a pity-party. No, I am confident — no, I KNOW I will see God’s goodness.” In other words, “Sure, this situation I’m in right now might be rough, but that’s not going to steal my hope. That’s not going to cause me to give up on my dreams. I am confident that I will see God’s favor in a new way.”
Think about that. “Sure, this situation might be rough, but that is NOT going to steal my hope. It is NOT going to cause me to give up on my dreams. I am confident that I will see God’s favor!”
Friends, that’s the attitude we need to have! It is similar to Paul when he said,
I don’t know what will happen to me in Jerusalem, but I must obey God’s Spirit and go there. in every city I visit, I am told by the Holy Spirit that I will be put injail and will be in trouble in Jerusalem. But I don’t care what happens to me, as long as I finish the work that the Lord Jesus gave me to do. And that work is to tell the good news about God’s great kindness (Acts 20:22- 24)
I love the way the Amplified Bible renders verse 24:
“. . . none of these things move me; neither do I esteem my life dear to myself, if only I may finish my course with joy . . .”
Yeah! Hey, whatever you focus your thoughts on is what you will see. No matter what the doctors tell you, no matter what your finances look like, no matter how bad that relationship may seem, you can be confident that you will see His goodness! We know him as “Elohim—the God of creation”; “El Shaddai — God Almighty;” “Yahweh Roi, my Shepherd;” He is Powerful; Omniscient; Creator of the Universe and miraculously, He holds you in the palm of His hand.
As Benny Hester sang:
Almighty God, the Great I Am, Immovable Rock, Omnipotent Powerful Awesome Lord; Victorious Warrior, Commanding King of kings, Mighty Conqueror . . . and the only time I saw Him run, was when He ran to me . . .”
Nothing is too difficult for Him. Take hold of this truth by faith and focus on His goodness today — this morning, right where you are sitting and allow His peace to settle in your heart and mind as you move forward in His blessing all the days of your life! Go on my friend, take on the day!
Father, I realized that I have never stopped to consider what would have become of me if I had never believed in you? I simply can’t imagine the loss of it. But this morning I will joyfully wait patiently for you. You are the greatest treasure in my life. To bask in your presence is a wondrous thing and I could never desire anything as awe-inspiring as you. I will indeed be brave and courageous as I look to you today! Yes, I will wait patiently for the Lord!”
