Facing Your Trials

I sometimes hear from folks who are having difficult times in their walk of faith.  But I have to remind them of what James told us:

[When You Are Tested, Turn to God ] My brothers and sisters, be very happy when you are tested in different ways. You know that such testing of your faith produces endurance. (James 1:2-3)

Now, I don’t know about you, but to me, that ain’t very good news to hear. Honest, how can we be “very happy” when we are tested? When we are struggling with our pain or frustration, we’re supposed to be happy? Really?

Oh, wait! What is it that Paul wrote?

“There is no temptation that you experience which is unusual for humans.”

Now, that is pretty encouraging. I mean, there is nothing you can face, that someone else hasn’t faced. That is something all of us has in common. That’s right! None of us has faced any temptation or trial that is beyond human resistance. But, Paul didn’t stop with that good news. He continued, “God, who faithfully keeps his promises, will not allow you to be tempted beyond your power to resist!

So, there is absolutely no reason for you to feel like you have to give up or surrender! Your temptation is nothing you cannot face! You have the ability to stand strong and to ignore that temptation. Paul explained, “When you are tempted, your Father will always provide the way out; a means of escape, that you may be capable and strong and powerful to bear up under it patiently!” (I Corinthians 10:13).

Folks, don’t quit; don’t put your hands up and surrender. You can continue on your journey.
