Are you willing to say, “The text is enough!” or do you believe that it has to be text plus the Holy Spirit? You know, this makes a difference. Are you content with an inner knowledge, or only an intellectual knowledge?
Ezekial understood this and declared:
So they come to you, as if they are still my people, and they sit down in front of you. They listen to what you say, but they don’t do it. They say that they love me, but in their hearts, they chase dishonest profits (Ezekiel 33:31)
See? The people listened to the Word, but they didn’t believe it. Sure, they shouted their “Amen, brother!” but, the truth is they just woke up from a nap in their pew. How do I know? What makes me say such things? Because they heard the message, “but they don’t do it!” Isn’t that what James said?
Don’t only hear the message, but do it; otherwise, you are merely deluding yourselves (James 1:23)
In the final analysis, the only thing that matters is whether or not we have been, as my pastor calls it, “Revelated”! Or, inwardly illuminated, inwardly regenerated, inwardly purified. The Word of God much go beyond a mental acknowledgment, it must be demonstrated with our actions; our behavior; the way we speak; the way we react to situations in our lives.
If the Word of God is a reality in our life, every area of our lives will be changed! Jesus put it this way:
If you live by what I say; if you hold fast to it, you are truly My disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free!” (John 8:31-32)
If you reverse that, Jesus was saying, “If you don’t live by what I say; if you don’t hold fast to it, you are not My disciples! And you will not be set free! Ouch!
